SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT
HOME

March 27, 2006

Parents, Guardians and Students:

North Cedar Intermediate will be holding a Science Fair on Wednesday, April 26th.  Student participation in the Science Fair is voluntary.  Science Fair projects, in most cases, will not be part of the regular school curriculum.  As a result, projects will be completed outside of school hours.  Students will be asked to return the form on the lower half of this paper to the office by Thursday, April 13th if they wish to participate.  This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore a scientific question that is of interest to them.  Students can work on a project independently, or with a single partner.  A maximum of 2 students per entry will be enforced.

A handbook has been created to guide students, parents, and guardians through the selection and creation of a Science Fair project.  Please pay special attention to the section titled “Display Board”.  This section outlines the limitations for dimensions and content.  The handbook can be printed directly from the NCI School website (http://schools.sd68.bc.ca/nrcd/) or copied by your child’s classroom teacher on request.

If your child chooses to participate in the Science Fair, please help him/ her transport all materials to and from school on Wednesday, April 26th.  We cannot guarantee the safety of projects that are stored at the school.  As a result, we are asking that projects arrive at and leave the school on the day of the Science Fair.  Students who have completed projects will set-up in the gym for judging during the morning of April 26th.  All participants will receive a certificate.  At least one award will be given for each grade and subsequent awards will be defined once the number of entries has been verified.  The gym will be open for viewing from 12:40 to 2:00.  Please feel free to stop by.

Thanks for your help and cooperation,

D. Gannon, M. Mehaffey, D. Dickie

Please detach the lower portion and return it with your child to the office by Thursday, April 13th
