Principal’s Welcome
Welcome to North Cedar Intermediate.
We are a rural school community of approximately 240 people. There
are about 220 students in grades 4 through 7 with about 20 staff to
support their learning. Our 3 central school goals are aimed at increasing
our student performance in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. We have
been making steady gains in these areas over the last 4 years and we
intend to continue to do so. Also, our school is a very active one with
enhanced programs in seasonal sports, music, fine arts, technology, fitness,
student leadership, family life and in our special education learning
center.
Our Fall Sports
are grade 4-7 boys and girls cross country, grade 6/7
girl’s soccer, and grade 6/7 boy’s football.
Our Winter Sports are grade 6/7 boy’s and girl’s volleyball,
and grade 6/7 girl’s and boy’s basketball. Our Spring
Sport is grade 4-7 boys and girl’s track and field. Our teams
do very well and include many students at the grade 6 and 7 level.
Our Music Program offers choral, recorder, ukulele for grade 4/5
and a full range of band instruments for grade 6/7 – drums and
guitar are by request only. Our fine arts program changes from year
to year but usually involves exploring art through many mediums and
drama through plays and/or musicals. Technology offerings take the
form of computer classes in our renovated lab of 30 computers with
internet service. There are also stations in each class room (1), our library
(2) and learning center (3). Fitness/Announcements are offered to the whole
school every morning in the gym between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and this
is run by our senior students with the principal. At present student leadership
takes the form of students organizing and running: fitness, announcements,
event support ie. Terry Fox Run, first aide, cross walk duty, play
activities for grade 4/5 at lunch, and our year book. Our family
life program deals with human growth and sexuality issues grades
4-7 and is offered by a qualified nurse from the BC Health Ministry.
This very popular program is entirely paid for by our PAC. Finally, our
special education program is very wide ranging and thorough, involving academic
support for needy students in all areas.
In the morning from 8:00 a.m. to
8:30 a.m., at recess from 10:20 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. and at lunch from
12:00 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. our school is open for students to use. Our
hallways, lockers, computer lab, library, outside fields and gym are
places for students to use at these times.
We feel that we have an excellent
educational program to offer your children and a super staff to deliver
it. Our belief is that with students, parents, staff and community
working closely and positively together over the entire school year,
our students can achieve to the best of their ability in a safe and
caring environment.
