How does the Learn@Home Program look?

Rather than attending classes in a brick and mortar school, Learn@Home students complete their education at home. BC Qualified SD68 teachers overlook and guide your learning through regularly scheduled face-to-face meetings, and online meetings. Students receive regular evaluation and progress reports, ultimately leading towards students earning a BC Dogwood Diploma.

What courses does the Learn@Home program offer?

The Learn@Home K-7 program offers the complete elementary curriculum. We direct you to the BC Ministry of Education page for more detailed information on the contents of the recognized BC Curriculum.


What are the entrance requirements?

Families must ...

  • Meet with SD68's Learn@Home team to discuss the program
  • Fill out and submit registration forms
  • Agree to the program guidelines and procedures
  • Have a commitment to parental support of students in the program

How and when do I apply?

Simply contact our office for a meeting. You may print out and complete a registration form () and bring it along with a Care Card and Birth Certificate to an intake meeting. You will need to establish a time for this meeting by contacting the Program Coordinator or teachers. Review the information on this site to clarify any questions you may have prior to your meeting.


How is the Learn@Home K-7 program funded?

The Learn@Home K-7 Program is funded by the Nanaimo School Board through the Ministry of Education. The budget is determined by the number of students enrolled in the program. The funding covers the basic needs of a classroom.

All school-aged learners of Canadian citizenship are funded 100% for Learn@Home programs.
