These instructions are given to encourage consistency and increase the quality of written work. They will also make your work more easily readable and aid in the development of good work habits.
| ROS | Run On Sentence--you have run together sentences that should be separated or punctuated differently. |
| AGR | Agreement--Faulty agreement. Your verb does not agree with your bare subject or pronoun does not agree with its antecedent. |
| FRAG | Sentence Fragment--whenever you use formal sentence statements be sure they are complex. |
| AWK | If the sentence you have written needs interpretation, it is very likely awkward. |
| STR | Sentence structure is confusing and in need of re-phrasing. |
| Misplaced modifier--place the modifier so there is no ambiguity. |
| REF | Faulty or vague reference to pronoun. |
| M | The meaning is not clear. |
| ? | This is illogical or an incomplete comparison; not understood. |
| CASE | Case errors--omission of apostrophe, etc. |
| W+ | Wordy. Shorten this; make it simple. |
| TENSE | Verb error. Inconsistent tense. |
| SP | Spelling error. |
| P | Faulty punctuation. |
| D | Diction--find a better word. |
| CL/SL | A cliche or slang. Find a better expression. |
| PAR | Check your paragraphing. |
| REP | The repetition jars. |
