Scaffolding

 1.  In a paragraph of 129 words, explain how this poem works as an extended metaphor
      for a relationship. 

Stopping By Woods

 1.  What is trhe nature of the inner conflict experienced by the person in poem.
 2.  What contrast is there between the speaker of the poem and the owner of the woods?
 3.  Why does the speaker mention that the owner of the woods will be unable to see him?
 4.  Give evidence to show that the person in the poem wishes to keep his pastime of woods 
      watching private?
 5.  Explain the meaning of the last three lines.  Give justification for your answer.

Lady of Shalott

 1.  Identify the following narrative features:  setting, complication, crisis.
 2.  Find an example of the use of contrast in the poem.  Carefully explain the two sides of the 
      contrast, and show how the contrast contributes to the effectiveness of the poem.
 3.  Why is Lancelot described in terms of dazzling light and burning heat?  Give reasons

Man With  Blue Guitar

Ozymandias

 1.  Is this a strongly emotional poem?  Refer to the type of language used.

      examples from the poem.

      What evidence is there in the poem to show that the group has developed a cult of its own?

Canoe Trip

 1.  What evidence is there of the toad's pluckiness?  Why does the poet suggest this
      quality in the toad?
 2.  Using three references, show how the poet emphasises the toad's great antiquity?
      What point is the poet making by referring to antiquity?
 3.  Show how the dominant mood of the poem is appropriate to the main subject?
 4.  What does the power mower represent?  Justify your answer.
 5.  Show how the poet makes a neat transition from one stanza to another.
