Communications 12

Welcome to Communications 12. It is a provincially examinable course and has a number of requirements for you to meet. The bottom line is that you are expected to demonstrate the following proficiencies:
- * skills in writing short compositions and various forms of letters
- * skills in reading a variety of written materials
- * skills in other forms of communication such as the oral presentation
- * skills in basic grammar/spelling/syntax
The basic content will be:
Novel: Student will choose own novel from library. It is expected that the student will be able to assess elements such as plot, character, theme, setting. (WW Chapter 9 )
Short Story: stories on film and in print will be studied for plot, character etc.
Poetry: recognize basic poetic devices and appreciation of poetry. (Rock Lyrics)
Drama: a variety of films will be analyzed for contributions of character etc. to the overall story.
Non-Fiction: various newspaper and other non-fiction material. Focus--to recognize manipulation and bias.
Composition (Language Skills): will be blended with all units. Students will develop the ability to write correct letters, summaries, and business memos with correct spelling and grammar.
Oral Work: Communicate in group/class projects. Students will read clearly from their own work and present/defend opinions rationally and clearly.
Comprehensive review and practice for the government exam.
I expect students to attend class daily ready willing and able to learn. There will be a lot of work done in class that can only be done in class. If you miss time, you will have to make it up at lunch. Know this: students must complete all assignments in order to receive credit for Communications 12.
