Evaluation

Assignments are sometimes evaluated based on the following 5 Point Scale adapted from the book Classroom Criteria: From A to Z (Olson). Criteria are discussed with the class at the beginning of the assignment.
 

5 POINT SCALE

5 = A = Excellent or outstanding performance in relation to the criteria

  • Task fully accomplished, all criteria met
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding
  • May have some unique or insightful aspect
  • Uses elaboration or detail

4 = B = Very good performance in relation to the criteria

  • Task substantially accomplished, all criteria met
  • Demonstrates complete understanding, using elaboration and detail
  • Minor errors
  • High quality work, but not outstanding

3 = C+ = Good performance in relation to the criteria

  • Task competently accomplished , most criteria met
  • Some errors occur
  • May lack elaboration or make incorrect assumptions
  • Solid quality work

2 = C = Satisfactory performance in relation to the criteria

  • Task is partially accomplished, missing several important criteria
  • Several errors occur
  • Acceptable, but lots of room for improvement
  • May be incorrect assumptions, no elaboration

1 = C- = Minimally acceptable performance in relation to the criteria

  • Only parts of the task are accomplished
  • Missing several important criteria
  • Many errors
  • Shows minimal understanding

0 = I = Has not yet met the criteria but may be making progress

  • Has only some parts of the task accomplished
  • Major errors, meaning unclear
  • Substantial misunderstanding
  • Little or no effort to attempt or complete the task
  • Work has not been handed in
