Service Awards
What are Service Awards?
Every year Dover Bay recognizes the number of hours students volunteer to various
activities that enhance the life of the school. The awards are divided into different
levels based on the total number of hours contributed. Awards are given out at the end
of the year at the evening Awards Ceremony.
What Qualifies for Service Awards?
Any school avtivity that takes place at Dover Bay or benefits Dover Bay in some way.
Examples are: any student council activity, scorekeeping or officiating at athletic events,
front of house or backstage work on drama productions, work on yearbook, newspaper, prom,
working in the library. You do not get service hours for time that you are paid for or
get course credit for (e.g. PE community hours, work experience) or time spent where you
personally benefit (e.g. fund raising for an activity to reduce your own cost).
See Mrs. Jakobsen or your sponsor teacher if you are not sure if your hours qualify as
service hours.
How Do I Get Credit For My Service Hours?
Students are responsible for recording their own service hours. You must complete a
service hour form each month with your activities and the number of hours listed. Each
activity listed must be signed by the sponsor teacher. Blank forms can be found in
the main office, or if you prefer, you can print one off the web by clicking below.
Completed forms must be turned into the office at the end of each month. Forms not recived
by the fifth of the month following the activity will not counted. There is a
mail slot on the wall specifically for the completed forms.
