History 12 covers the history of the twentieth century, with a heavy emphasis on Europe and North America, from 1919 to 1991. There is a provincial exam in June. The basic texts are Howarth’s Twentieth Century History, Demarco’s The World This Century: Working with Evidence, and A Map History of the Modern World.

Classroom policies
1. Attend all classes. Regular attendance is a critical factor
in any academic Grade 12 course. For an absence to be excused you
must bring a note from your parent or guardian on the day of your return.
Please note that such things as non-school ski/snowboard trips, rock concerts
and musicals, shopping trips, spectating at sports events and non-school
camping trips are not legitimate reasons for absence.
2. Tests and quizzes must be written on the prescribed day. Absences
on test days will be followed up. A legitimate absentee may take
the test upon return, or it may be entered as an "omit". An illegitimate
absence will be marked as 0. Only a note from a parent or guardian
on the day of return excuses an absence.
3. Be on time, with all equipment, for every class. Remain in
your seat until dismissed.
4. Do not wear a hat, use a Walkman or Diskman, or eat/drink in class.
5. Hand work in on time. Work handed in late without legitimate reason
(in the form of a note) will be penalized at a rate of 20% per day until
the assignment is returned, when late work will no longer be accepted.
6. Be polite and courteous. Do not disrupt the learning environment.
Study aids
There are test banks of old provincial exam multiple choice questions
on the school network. on the t drive -> Duthie -> LXR -> History 12. These
are filed under the old curriculum, but most of the questions are still
relevant. In addition, a new study guide, History 12 Student
Workbook matching the new curriculum has just been published. It
costs $21.95, and we strongly recommend that you buy it. We will
order copies for all who want one. (You may be able to buy a second-hand
one from a semester 1 student.)
We are still working on a new format for the research paper.
Details when available.
