KEYBOARDING 9/11
The emphasis of this course is to encourage the development of touch
typing skills on the alphabetic keys, along with basic punctuation keys.
It is designed to pick up where Keyboarding 8 (in the Lifeskills rotation)
left off. The typing speed & accuracy that can be developed through
this course will enable the student to complete personal documents, basic
business forms and post-secondary assignments, with competency and ease.
Students who have already received credit for any keyboarding
course beyond the short introduction in Life Skills 8, are strongly encouraged
to select another business course where they will have more opportunity
to develop touch typing on the numeric & symbolic keys, and further
develop their production skills e.g. Business Information, Business
Information Management, Management Innovation, etc. (Course descriptions
are available in the school calendars).

TIPS FOR
THE COURSE
-
the best way to find your perfect pace is to follow the speed
& accuracy goal we will use for the entire course...
go fast enough to typing (no more than) one error per minute!
-
the best way to learn how to type is to practice on a keyboard that
has blank keys. You can purchase blank keys from any store that sells keyboards.
Pop the lettered keys off, put on the blank ones and go for it!
TIPS FOR USING VARIOUS
COMPUTER PROGRAMS
CORTEZ
PETERS TYPING PROGRAM
-
when learning new
keys: check the proper reach from
your handout, practice the reach while watching the direction of your finger
as it goes to and lands on the new key, close your eyes, try to get there
and back to homerow (without looking at your fingers). When you can
do this skill, try the lesson on the new key(s).
-
the only assignments we print
from this program are the RACES which
are in: Lessons 4, 8, 12,
16, & 20
-
there are four lines to each
RACE
-
when asked to enter your GWAM for lines 1 & 2, key 99
-
when asked to enter your ERRORS for lines 1& 2, key 0
-
the program will now calculate your GWAM & ERRORS for lines 3 &
4
-
use the handout titled Typing Technique to
determine which fingers stay home when you reach for a key
-
our goal for the end of this program is to type
24 Correct Words A Minute (CWAM) with
an accuracy rate of
one error per minute.
-
when you get to the end of Lesson 20, see me for
a new disk,
and an introduction to Skill Builder
-
most people (with limited touch typing skills) will
take approximately 3 weeks to get to Lesson 20; it's not a race; we have
4 months to develop and refine our skills
