This course is intended to deepen the student's understanding of the planning and design skills required to prepare working and presentation drawings for a custom home. After instructions in the basics of surveying, students will collect data on the site characteristics of one of a choice of building lots and will prepare basic survey/site plans. Working under identical criterion and constraints, students will be challenged to come up with an unique design solution to a hypothetical housing need related to the site of their choice.
Once approval of their initial sketch proposals is obtained, and National and local building codes have been explored, the students will proceed through the creation of foundation, floor plan, section, elevation, and pictorial rendering drawings of their individual projects. Window and door schedules will be developed, and models of a few selected student designs may be built.
