OCTOBER 8TH, 2009
Text Box: Dear parents, community members and students,

We are rapidly approaching the end of the first term. Thursday, this week is Interim Day. This snapshot is a good indicator of your son or daughter’s progress so far and a good opportunity to review academic goals. Please contact your son/daughter’s teachers if you have any questions about how they are doing.

Last week we met with our grade 12 students to hand out their GTS (Grad Transition Standards) packages (required for graduation), grad check sheets and prom and commencement information. Parents should be aware that as past practice, students who are suspended for being involved with drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to attend prom. I also discussed social responsibility expectations for our grade 12’s and explained that if a student receives five discipline referrals (given for truancy, disrespectful behaviour or abusive language, etc.) between October 1st and June 1st they will also not be permitted to attend prom. My hope is that 92 out of 92 grade 12 students will enjoy a memorable celebration of their time at CCSS!

Last night we had an excellent turn out for our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening and our Grad/Parent meeting! Thank you for joining us—I know many of you are very busy and your support and interest in the school is much appreciated!

As many of you are aware, we have implemented a new computer program which allows us to input student attendance every class (instead of twice a day). Our phone out system will call you if your son/daughter has missed one or more classes that are not excused. If your son/daughter is absent from school with your permission, please make sure you call the school, or that you provide your son/daughter with a note to hand in to the office. Thank you for your assistance.

At this time of the year, our volleyball season, boy’s soccer season, rugby and mountain bike club are well underway. Many thanks go out to our coaches and teacher sponsors: Mr. Membery—sr. boys volleyball, Ms. Lechthaler & Ms. Gannon—grade 8 girls volleyball, Mr. Epp—jr. girls volleyball, Mr. Rounis—sr. girls volleyball, Mr. Norcutt—sr. boys soccer, Mr. Mark—mountain bike club and rugby. We really appreciate their time and commitment to student athletics!

	Sincerely, Susann Young

TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership: (One of the largest and most prestigious scholarship programs in Canada).

These scholargships are awarded to students now in their final year of high school across Canada who have shown exceptional initiative in making a meaningful and lasting difference in their community. Each scholarship includes full tuition at any approved university or college in Canada, $7500 a year towards living expenses and an offer of summer employment at TD Canada Trust.

While applicants must be academically capable of entering and successfully completing either university or college, the focus of these scholarships is not primarily on rewarding the highest marks. The key criterion is outstanding community leadership, in balance with the student’s academic performance.

Please note that the final deadline for receipt of applications is October 30, 2009 so it is important for interested students to begin preparing their submissions as soon as possible.

Application forms and brochures are available in Room 202 at the school or please see Ms. Milburn for further information. You may also review their website at www.tdcanadatrust.com/scholarship which highlights the achievements of last year’s scholarship recipients.
