Interactive Innovations Travel Subsidy for BCCPAC Members

On March 2 to 4, 2008 five locations across the province will play host to
"Interactive Innovations III: A Showcase of Learners and Learning." The
Conference will be held in five cities (Victoria, Vancouver, Nelson, Vernon
and Prince George) all interconnected online - in real time. Each site will
focus on a single theme and will webcast a keynote presentation to each of
the other sites. A one-time grant from the Ministry of Education has been
secured to allow parent delegates to attend the conference at the location

Nominations Deadline February 28



Members are reminded that BCCPAC is accepting nominations for the
President; Second Vice President; Secretary; and two Directors. The
election of these positions will be held at the Annual General Meeting, May
3-4. Nominations forms must reach the BCCPAC office by 11:59 pm on February

BCCPAC Awards Deadline March 1st

BCCPAC reminds all members that the deadlines for the George Matthews Award
for Excellence in Parent Leadership, the Bev Hosker Motivational Award, the
BCCPAC Educational Award and the BCCPAC Life Membership Award are coming up
March 1st. The George Matthews Award honours parents whose leadership,
dedication, and influence have demonstrated to the education community the
importance of the parent role in education. The Bev Hosker Motivational
Award honours a parent or guardian who is a newly-involved parent taking on
a leadership role in their PAC or DPAC. The BCCPAC Educational Award is
granted annually to a well-rounded student in Grade 12 who is involved and
interested in many things and has an understanding of the importance of
parent involvement in education. The Life Membership award is granted
annually to an individual who has provided service to the Society and whose
contribution is considered to have been innovative and of significant
lasting importance for futhering the inclusion and support of parents in
BC's public education system and the improvement of education for children

Foundation Skills Assessment

The Foundation Skills Assessment is being administered this year from
February 4 to 15. The assessment is administered each year to Grade 4 and 7
students in public and provincially funded independent schools. For more

Student Congress to be Held April 4


The second annual Student Congress will be held in Vancouver on April 4,
2008. The theme for this year's congress is "Your Education = Your Future."
Secondary students in B.C. are encouraged to apply online. Applicants will
be chosen at random; however, the process will ensure all regions of B.C.
are represented and that students from public, independent and band schools
are selected. Application forms must be received by Feb. 22, 2008 and are

Deadline February 22 for Submissions to Reel Vue Student Film Project and
Festival

Reel Vue is open for submissions from Grade 10-12 students. Students submit
an original artistic work in one of three media (visual arts, writing and
music) for an opportunity to make films using state of the art equipment at
the prestigious Gulf Islands Film and Television School (GIFTS). Submissions
must be thematically linked to one of five themes relating to BC history
(home, time, space, humanity and choice) and must be received by February
