                          January 26, 2010 Meeting Minutes

 

Present:  Ms. Susann Young,  Brenda Stupich, Debbie Thexton, Melanie Boulding, Sandra Newton

 

1.     Approval of agenda:  Melanie moved to accept the agenda, Susann seconded.

2.     Approval of minutes:  Sandra moved to accept the November 24 meeting minutes, Melanie seconded.

3.     Correspondence:

-         Thank you card from Colleen, teacher librarian.

-         Nanaimo/Ladysmith school foundation info.

-         Teacher magazines. Volume 3 and 4.

4.     Reports:

-         CCSES:  Meeting coming up;  Application for grant for coffee shop run by people with challenges;  New coordinator Kelly Fryer.

-         DPAC:  No report

-         Principal’s Report:

-            - Report cards Feb 11

-            - Ski trip Feb 9 – partial fundraiser for athletics

-            - Grad fashion show Feb 11

-            - Fun fair in Feb

-            - March – course selection begins

-            - Welcome back to Steven Epp (student activities coord); Becky Kay (ma10 and Sc10); Jim Basnett (ma and shop); Taya Murray (band); and Kim Barton (fn12)

-             - New math program starting Sept 2010 – see attached.

-             - Crystal Meth program info – see attached. School may focus on drug education to keep students aware.

-             - Planners will not be funded for next year.  There will be a 10% budget cut for supplies.

-         BINGO – we have done the yearly reapplication.  There is the BC150 VIP grant of $5000.00 based on volunteer time that has been approved.  Info has to be sent in by Feb 5.

-         Treasurer’s Report – Approx $8900.00 in all 4 accounts.  (BMO and Island Savings).  Will be closing the BMO accounts.  The BMO made a mistake on the cheques for the general account and the bingo account, causing us to bounce a check.  Brenda will deal with this matter with BMO.

-         Fun Fair – Raffle items have been donated.  Silent auction items can still be donated until Feb 10.  We may open an hour on Thursday night for silent auction.  We need parents to man events.  A mail out to the parents will be done.

-         Easy Peasy – never went out.  Will be tabled until March meeting, after we have totals raised at fun fair.

 

5.     New Business

-         PAC recruiting.  Will do a mail out in the spring to inform parents of the importance of a functioning PAC and what the consequences would be if we do not get the volunteers for Sept 2010.

 

6.     Old Business

-         Prom Purchase – the movie screen has been ordered.

-         49th receipts - $75.00 donation to a needy family. $50.00 remaining.

-         Emergency bags – Brenda will address this with the SD as this is a mandated item.

-         Country Grocer receipts – Debbie brought in $35.00 in food country gift cards.  Will put reminder in letter home in the future.

-         Shade trees – Richard will either have the quote available by Feb 1, or will have some free trees for us.
