Time allowed: Approximately 2 days
Objective: Using Adobe Illustrator to create a basic drawing in the style of West Coast First Nations Art
In this assignment, you will learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to create and manipulate simple shapes.
You will need to download and save this image and use it as reference.
First, Place the reference image on to your artboard.
Secondly, create a new layer (the layer button is on the right hand side of your screen). You will be drawing on this new layer.
Using Elipse tool, pen tool (to add anchor points), and the subselection tool (to modify paths and curves, trace all parts of this First Nations art.
You can use the Live Paint Fill tool to fill in different parts of the eye.
Here are some keyboard shortcuts that will help you move objects to different orders:
- Ctrl+[ = Send Backward (This will send object back 1 step)
- Ctrl+] = Bring Forward (This will bring object front 1 step)
- Ctrl+Shift+[ = Send to Back (This will send object all the way to the back)
- Ctrl+Shift+] = Bring to Front (This will bring object all the way to the front)
- Ctrl+F = Paste in Front (This will paste object in front with same position)
When you are ready to hand in the file, save as follows:
- Save your files in your H:\Digital Media\Project 9\
- Now, you need to export the file from .ai to .jpg
- File -> Save As ... choose "jpeg" as your file format
- Click on the "export" button at the bottom right hand side and save the files in your H:\Digital Media\Project 9\
- Drag and drop your saved file to S:\Wei\Hand In\DM11\Project 9\
