Welcome to John Barsby Community School's Aboriginal Education Department

The duties and purposes of the Aboriginal Education Department at John Barsby are to ensure the success of all the school’s Aboriginal students and to help promote appreciation for and understanding between the school’s Aboriginal community and other school communities. The district’s Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement provides specific details about the commitment between School District 68 and the Aboriginal communities it serves.

First Nations and Aboriginal communities in School District 68’s area include Snuneymuxw (Nanaimo) First Nation, Sna Na As (Nanoose) First Nation, Chemainus First Nation, Mid Island Métis Nation, and Tillicum Lelum. John Barsby stands on traditional Snuneymuxw First Nations Territory. JBCS also welcomes and serves many other Aboriginal students from across B.C. and Canada.
