Instructions

Introduction: You have just gained some knowledge of the life cycle of the virus and how it operates to cause illness. The most prominant virus is currently the HIV Virus which leads to AIDS.

Purpose: To examine current theories and knowledge about the HIV virus and to practice locating specific maganize articles.

  1. Point out statements in the article that you can explain more fully, based on your new knowledge of viruses.
  2. Compare / contrast the description of the AIDS-causing virus with information you gathered in class about viruses in general.
  3. Based on your newly gained information about viruses, discuss the social aspects of AIDS. For example, are certain behaviours really dangerous? What is myth and what is to be actually feared?
  4. Some treatments seem to slow the progress of AIDS. How do they affect the life cycle of the virus?
  5. Explain why this virus is spreading on such a wide scale. Hint: It has something to do with the life cycle of the HIV virus.
